ENDURO MONDIAL – WEC : GP SWEDEN DAY 1
LES SCANDINAVES SOUVERAINS SUR LEURS TERRES
Avec les victoires de catégorie de Mika Ahola, Joakim Ljunggren, Samuli Aro et Roni Nikander, Suédois et Finlandais ont prouvé ce premier jour de compétition que le GRAND PRIX MAXXIS DE SUÈDE reste leur chasse gardée.
En revanche, contrairement aux deux précédentes éditions, les pilotes latins ont offert un visage beaucoup moins pâle, en venant notamment titiller les spécialistes de la neige et des pneus à clous dans le haut du classement. Cette ouverture du MAXXIS FIM WEC marque également un premier record d’affluence, puisque des centaines de spectateurs sont venus braver le froid sec et ensoleillé d’Östersund, pour venir assister au spectacle incroyable des meilleurs pilotes d’enduro au monde à l’attaque dans les forêts enneigées.
ENDURO 1
Alors qu’on le disait encore en rodage sur la 250 4T, Mika AHOLA (FIN-HON) a prouvé aujourd’hui qu’il est bien l’un des candidats les plus sérieux dans la catégorie des petites cylindrées. En grand spécialiste des épreuves de neige, le champion du monde de l’E2 a surclassé ses adversaires dès la première spéciale. Sans réelle opposition, le pilote HM Honda relègue son premier poursuivant à plus de 1 minute 40 secondes.
Mika AHOLA : « J’aime rouler dans la neige, et j’apprécie vraiment la 250 4T dans ces conditions. Je suis surpris car je ne pensais pas être aussi rapide. En tout cas j’ai bien préparé cette épreuve, et je dois reconnaître que pour moi rouler dans la neige est naturel. Ça fait 16 ans que je fais ça. J’ai aussi invité Simone Albergoni à s’entraîner avec moi, et au final il est deuxième, donc je pense que je suis un bon professeur. »
Deuxième et troisième places ont offert une compétition plus engagée, Simone ALBERGONI (ITA-YAM) jouant l’animateur du jour. L’Italien a voulu prendre une revanche sur cette épreuve en la préparant tout particulièrement. Ses très bons chronos dans l’Enduro Test lui permettent de décrocher une belle deuxième place du classement. Dans un élément qu’il maîtrise parfaitement, Eero REMES (FIN-KTM) prend la troisième place.
Marc GERMAIN (FRA-YAM) voit lui aussi son travail de préparation récompensé par une encourageante quatrième place du jour. L’objectif des pilotes du Sud de l’Europe étant de limiter la casse, certains cadors du WEC doivent se contenter de résultats passables, à l’image d’Ivan CERVANTES (SP-KTM). Le champion du monde de l’E3 est sixième à 2 minutes 45 secondes d’Ahola.
ENDURO 2
Joakim LJUNGGREN (SWE-HSB) a pour le moins réussi son entrée dans la cour des grands. Le double champion du monde Junior remporte sa première victoire chez les Seniors en Grand Prix, au terme d’une impressionnante progression au fil de la journée.
Joakim LJUNGGREN : « Je ne savais pas du tout comment ça allait se passer dans cette nouvelle catégorie, avec une nouvelle machine. J’aime beaucoup ces conditions et je me suis battu jusqu’à la dernière spéciale. Le public m’a également beaucoup aidé moralement. Je ne réalise pas encore que j’ai battu Aubert, Salminen et les autres. J’aime simplement être ici, c’est le terrain qui me convient le mieux. »
La catégorie E2 a été particulièrement animée. Un moment leader, ensuite deuxième, le débutant Antoine MEO (FRA-HVA) a bien failli créer l’exploit avant de chuter dans la dernière spéciale, il est finalement cinquième.
Johnny AUBERT (FRA-YAM) est le meilleur pilote latin de la catégorie, 2 ème . Son rival Juha SALMINEN (FIN-KTM), 3 ème , a calé et perdu beaucoup de temps dans le dernier Enduro Test. L’autres pécialiste de la neige, Jari MATTILA (FIN-HON) a dû abandonner sur casse de sa chaîne.
ENDURO 3
Chez les grosses cylindrées, les deux amis Samuli ARO (FIN-KTM) et Marko TARKKALA (FIN-KTM) se sont bagarrés toute la journée pour la victoire. Finalement, Aro sur sa 300 2 temps parvient à dominer son coéquipier pour 9.9 secondes. Toujours rapide dans des conditions scandinaves, Bjorne CARLSSON (SWE-HSB) prend la troisième place. Quatrième au chrono, Anders ERIKSSON (SWE-BMW) voit son résultat annulé, suite à un changement de batterie non autorisé. Cette disqualification profite aux deux français Sébastien GUILLAUME (FRA-HVA) 4 ème et Christophe NAMBOTIN (FRA-GAS) 5 ème . Victime de douleurs vives à la cuisse, suite à une blessure contractée en championnat de France, Fabien PLANET (FRA-KTM) n’aura effectué que quelques mètres sur la neige suédoise.
JUNIOR
Réputé pour sa vitesse sur la neige et la glace, Roni NIKANDER (FIN-KTM) s’adjuge la catégorie Junior. Jusque-là inconnu sur la scène mondiale, Oskari KANTONEN (FIN-KTM) est troisième. La surprise vient de Marc BOURGEOIS (FRA-HVA). Deuxième, le Français s’intercale au milieu des jeunes spécialistes de la neige. L’hiver suédois étant particulièrement clément à cette période de l’année, l’Extreme Test, prévue sur le lac de Storsjon, a dû être annulée à cause de la fonte des glaces. C’est donc l’Enduro test qui a servi de décor au premier volet du BMW MOTORRAD XTREME TEST AWARDS. Dans cette spéciale longue et rapide, offrant plus de 12minutes d’effort, le meilleur pilote est Mika Ahola. Le vainqueur 2007 prend la tête du classement du challenge BMW. SCANDINAVIANS SOVEREIGN ON THEIR HOMELAND
With the victories of Mika Ahola, Joakim Ljunggren, Samuli Aro and Roni Nikander, Swedes and Finns proved this first day of competition that the GRAND PRIX MAXXIS OF SWEDEN is their favourite race. On the other side, and contrary to the last two editions, the Latin riders offered an enthusiastic performance, by shaking up the spiked tyres specialists in the top of the standings. This opening round of MAXXIS FIM WEC also signs a record of affluence for Sweden. Hundreds of spectators defied dry and cold weather in Östersund, to attend the incredible spectacle of the world best enduro riders attacking in the snow-covered forests.
ENDURO 1
Whereas many thought he was still in start-up period with the 250 4T, Mika AHOLA (FIN-HON) proved today he is one of the most serious candidates in the small engine category. As a specialist of snow, the E2 world champion outclassed his adversaries from the first special test. Without real opposition, the HM Honda rider relegates his first contender to more than 1 minute 40 seconds.
Mika AHOLA: « I’m really surprised, I didn’t think I could be so fast. But it’s true that I like riding in snow, especially with the small bike. I hope I can ride as fast in Spain and Portugal, but for sure it will be a different race. I’ve been riding alot on snow this winter, and now I do it for 16 years. I also said to Simone Albergoni to come to train with me in Finland. He’s second today so I guess I’m also a good teacher. “Second and third places offered an interesting competition, and Simone ALBERGONI (ITA-YAM) signs the big surprise of the class. The Italian wanted to take a revenge on last edition. His very good times in the Enduro Test enable him to take a beautiful second place. Eero REMES (FIN-KTM) is third. Marc GERMAIN (FRA-YAM) sees also his preparatory work rewarded with an encouraging fourth place of the day. The target of most of the southern Europe riders was to get the maximum points, and some world class riders must satisfy with mediocre results, as Ivan CERVANTES (ESP-KTM). The E3 worldchampion ends 6 th at 2 minutes 45 seconds of Ahola.
ENDURO 2
Joakim LJUNGGREN (SWE-HSB) makes a successful entry in the Senior class. The Junior double world champion wins, after an impressive progression in his times all over the day.
Joakim LJUNGGREN: « It’s really good. I had no idea of what was going to happen because it’s a new class, with a new bike. But I like these conditions very much and I was fighting until the last test. The spectators pushed me alot, and it’s a lot of fun. « The E2 category was really eventful. One moment leader, then second, beginner Antoine MEO (FRA-HVA) failed to create an exploit before falling in the last special test, he is finally fifth. Johnny AUBERT (FRA-YAM) is the best Latin of the category, 2 nd . His rival Juha SALMINEN (FIN-KTM), 3 rd , stopped his engine and lost many time in the last Enduro Test. The other specialist of snow, Jari MATTILA (FIN-HON) had to give up on breakage of his chain.
ENDURO 3
In the big class, the two friends Samuli ARO (FIN-KTM) and Marko TARKKALA (FIN-KTM) battled all the day for the victory. Finally, Aro on his 300-2 strokes manages to dominate his teammate by 9.9 seconds. Always fast under Scandinavian conditions, Bjorne CARLSSON (SWE-HSB) takes the third place. Fourth in the time keeping, Anders ERIKSSON (SWE-BMW) sees his result cancelled after an unauthorized change of battery. This disqualification benefits the two French Sebastien GUILLAUME (FRA-HVA) 4 th and Christophe NAMBOTIN (FRA-GAS) 5 th . Victim of pains to the thigh, after a recent injury in French championship, Fabien PLANET (FRA-KTM) only rode a few meters in Swedish snow before to give up.
JUNIOR
Well known for his speed on snow and ice, Roni NIKANDER (FIN-KTM) wins the Junior category. Unknown on the world scene, Oskari KANTONEN (FIN-KTM) ends third. The surprise comes from Marc BOURGEOIS (FRA-HVA). Second, the French is intercalated in the middle of young snow specialists. Thus the Endurotest has been chosen as scenery of the BMW MOTORRAD XTREME TEST AWARDS. In this long and fast special test, offering more than 12 minutes ofeffort, Mika Ahola imposes himself as the best rider. 2007 winner takes the head of the BMW challenge.
