ENDURO MONDIAL : WEC – GP PORTUGAL DAY1

LE PORTUGAL, UN ENDURO POUR COSTAUD

Deux semaines après le grand froid de l’ouverture suédoise, de chaudes températures printanières ont accueilli la première journée du GRAND PRIX POLISPORT DU PORTUGAL, comptant pour la deuxième épreuve du MAXXIS FIM WEC.

Malgré ces conditions climatiques clémentes, les stars de l’enduro ont dû affronter un terrain rendu piégeur par les importantes pluies tombées les jours précédant la course. Disputé dans une région escarpée et rocailleuse, cet enduro a particulièrement fatigué les forçats du WEC.

Les plus résistants et rapides d’entre eux sont Simone Albergoni, Johnny Aubert, Samuli Aro et Marc Bourgeois.

ENDURO 1

Jusque dans la dernière spéciale du jour, la catégorie des petites cylindrées est restée indécise entre Simone ALBERGONI (ITA-YAM) et Mika AHOLA (FIN-HM). Au final, l’Italien, s’impose avec une seconde d’avance sur le Finlandais, victime d’une chute dans les premiers chronos du matin.

Simone ALBERGONI : « C’est vraiment un début de saison incroyable pour moi. En Suède, j’ai assuré deuxième et troisième places. Aujourd’hui je gagne. J’ai chuté deux fois en spéciale, mais je suis parvenu à combler mon retard. J’espère seulement que le championnat va continuer ainsi. J’essaye simplement de trouver le bon rythme dès les premières spéciales, C’est la deuxième saison avec cette moto, je m’y suis habitué. Mon équipe fournit un travail fantastique, j’espère donc gagner ce mondial. »

Ivan CERVANTES (ESP-KTM) termine à la troisième place de l’E1 devant la révélation Finlandaise Eero REMES (FIN-KTM). Blessé aux ligaments du pouce en Suède, Bartosz OBLUCKI (POL-HVA) a tenté de prendre le départ de la course, mais la douleur trop vive et des chutes à répétition l’ont contraint à l’abandon en liaison. Le pilote Husqvarna, forfait pour la manche espagnole, devrait s’octroyer un mois de repos pour revenir regonflé lors du Grand Prix de Pologne.

ENDURO 2

Cette première manche du Grand Prix Polisport du Portugal restera décidément comme une journée noire pour l’équipe Husqvarna. Outre l’abandon d’Oblucki, il faut ajouter les défections sur problème mécanique d’Antoine MEO (FRA-HVA) et Aaron BERNARDEZ (ESP-HVA). En tête de la course, le duel attendu entre Juha SALMINEN (FIN-KTM) et Johnny AUBERT (FRA-YAM) a tenu toutes ses promesses. En ne se quittant pas de la journée, les deux hommes ont écrit aujourd’hui l’une des pages les plus glorieuses de l’histoire de l’enduro. Récompensé pour sa pugnacité, Johnny Aubert parvient à voler la victoire à l’ogre finlandais dans le dernier tour pour moins d’une seconde.

Johnny AUBERT : « Je suis très ému. Prendre une journée à Salminen, ça n’arrive pas souvent. Je me suis vraiment battu pour essayer de lui mettre la pression. En fin de course, il a connu des problèmes avec sa fourche et j’ai pu aller chercher cette victoire dans la dernière Extreme Test. C’est vraiment fabuleux. Vu que tous les autres pilotes de la catégorie étaient décrochés, à plus d’une minute trente, je ne prenais pas trop de risque. J’ai tout essayé, avec les encouragements de mon équipe. Salminen est battable, même si ce n’est pas facile. »

À la lutte avec le combatif Alessandro BELOMETTI (ITA-KTM), Joakim LJUNGGREN (SWE-HSB) parvient à décrocher la troisième place de l’E2.

ENDURO 3

Deux chutes dans le premier tour n’ont pas suffi à entamer la volonté de Samuli ARO (FIN-KTM). Parti avec un net handicap de temps, le Finlandais a refait son retard pour décrocher une victoire inédite en terre portugaise. Le chemin inverse de Christophe NAMBOTIN (FRA-GAS). Leader jusqu’à la mi-journée, le Français a perdu 40 secondes en chutant dans la Cross Test. Derrière Marko TARKKALA (FIN-KTM) solide deuxième, la bataille fut âpre pour la troisième marche du podium. Elle revient finalement à l’étonnant Marcus KEHR (GER-KTM) devant Sébastien GUILLAUME (FRA-HVA).

JUNIOR

Victimes de problèmes d’allumage, Mirko GRITTI (ITA-BETA) n’a pas été en mesure prendre part à la nouvelle magnifique bagarre qui a rythmé la catégorie Junior. La course s’est d’ailleurs autant jouée en liaison qu’en spéciale. Plus rapide entre les cellules de chronométrage, Thomas OLDRATI (ITA-KTM) écope de pénalités en liaison et rétrograde au classement. La victoire est pour son grand rival Marc BOURGEOIS (FRA-HVA). L’espagnol Orio MENA signe son retour aux affaires sur le WEC en cueillant la deuxième place de la catégorie. DAY ONE OF THE GRAND PRIX POLISPORT OF PORTUGAL : A HARD ENDURO FOR STRONG RIDERS

Two weeks after a cold Swedish opening, the spring temperatures welcomed first day of the GRAND PRIX POLISPORT OF PORTUGAL, second race of 2008 MAXXIS FIM WEC. Despite these enjoyable climatic conditions, the stars of the enduro had to face a slippery track, after the important rains fallen during the days preceding the event. Run in a hilly and rocky area, this round particularly tired the WEC convicts. The most resistant and fastest contenders of the dayare Simone Albergoni, Johnny Aubert, Samuli Aro and Marc Bourgeois.

ENDURO 1

Until last special test of the day, the « small engine category » was undecided between Simone ALBERGONI (ITA-YAM) and Mika AHOLA (FIN-HM). Finally, the Italian imposes himself with one second advance on the Finn, victim of a fallin the first lap.

Simone ALBERGONI : « It is really an incredible beginning of season for me. In Sweden, I ensured second and third places. Today I win. I fell twice but I managed to fill my delay. I hope that the championship will continue like this. I simply tried to find the good rhythm in the first tests, and it worked. It is the second season with this bike, I am now accustomed. My team is making a fantastic work, and I hope I will win the championship. »

Ivan CERVANTES (ESP-KTM) finishes in the third position of E1, in front of the Finnish revelation Eero REMES (FIN-KTM). Injured to the inch in Sweden, Bartosz OBLUCKI (POL-HVA) tried to take the departure of the race, but pain and repetitive falls constrained him to give up. The Husqvarna factory rider should take a one month rest to come back for his homeland Grand Prix of Poland.

ENDURO 2

This first round of the Grand Prix Polisport of Portugal will remain as a hard day for the Husqvarna factory team. After Oblucki, Antoine MEO (FRA-HVA) and Aaron BERNARDEZ (ESP-HVA) had to stop on mechanical problems. At the head of the race, the duel awaited between Juha SALMINEN (FIN-KTM) andJohnny AUBERT (FRA-YAM) wrote today one of the most glorious pages of the history of enduro. Rewarded for his pugnacity, Johnny Aubert manages tosteal the victory to the Finnish ogre in the last test for less than one second.

Johnny AUBERT: « I am very happy. To take one day to Salminen does not happen often. I really fought to try to put the pressure on him. In race end, he knew problems with his front suspension, and I could seek this victory in the last Extreme Test. This is really fabulous. Considering all the others riders were taken down, at more than one minute thirty, I did not take too much risk. I pushed a lot, with the encouragements of my team. Salminen is beatable, even if it is not easy. « 

Fighting with combative Alessandro BELOMETTI (ITA-KTM), Joakim LJUNGGREN(SWE-HSB) manages to take the third place of E2.

ENDURO 3

Two falls on the first lap were not enough to damage the will of Samuli ARO(FIN-KTM). Despite a time handicap, Finn remakes his delay to win a new unreleased Portuguese victory. The opposite way of Christophe NAMBOTIN (FRA-GAS). Leader until the middle-race, the French lost 40 seconds while falling in the Cross Test. Behind Marko TARKKALA (FIN-KTM) solid second, the battle was fierce for thethird step of the podium. It returns finally to amazing Marcus KEHR (GER-KTM), third in front of Sebastien GUILLAUME (FRA-HVA).

JUNIOR

Victims of problems with his ignition, Mirko GRITTI (ITA-BETA) was not able to take part of splendid brawls of the Junior category. The race was played as much in connections than into special tests. Fastest between the cells,Thomas OLDRATI (ITA-KTM) coped penalties on the trail. The victory is for hisrival Marc BOURGEOIS (FRA-HVA). Spaniard Orio MENA signs his return to the business on the WEC by gathering the second place of the category.
